8th Leipzig Forum on Computer Assisted Surgery 2008
25. September 2008 arranged by the Innovation Center Computer Assisted Surgery

Technical Research and Clinical Application - Successful Research Translation in Practice

Examples for the successful translation of a technical prototype to a successful medical device are intraoperative navigation systems, or image-guided surgery systems (IGS-systems). However, the central question of computer-assisted medicine how technical research results can be translated to clinical routine still remains. This question will be addressed at the Leipzig Forum on CAS 2008.

Five internationally renowned experts of different translational centers will report on the critical success factors of their centers and will discuss with the audience how a sustained development can be achieved.

Our experts are:

Prof. Dr. Aaron Fenster
Director of the Imaging Research Laboratories, Robarts Research Institute, Canada

Prof. Dr. Horst Hahn
Vice-President of MeVis Research, Germany

Prof. Dr. Wiro Niessen
Co-Director, Biomedical Imaging Group, Erasmus Medical Center, The Netherlands

Dr. Anders Persson
Director, Center for Medical Image Science and Visualization, Linköpings University, Sweden

PD Dr. Gero Strauß
